There are many children that may be placed in my classroom that have a wide range of disabilities ranging from mild ADHD to Autism and down syndrome. As the children are introduced into the classroom how do we as teachers cope? How do we make the connection with the family allowing them to feel secure in us to provide the best learning enviroment for their child?
Hi, Heather. You're off to a fine start, though I'd encourage you to focus your inquiry on a more specific topic as we progress through the term. This might be easier once your classmates start giving you feedback, or as you proceed through the readings. Obviously, disabilities take on a variety of forms, all of which manifest themselves differently in classroom situations. Is there any one (or few) disabilities that you think would be more challenging to accommodate than others? How would you answer the questions that you posed in this post?
